Technology Overview

I am not entirely tech-savvy, but I think I know enough to be able to make it through this class, and if not, I will certainly learn. My first impression of this course was that I was going to be slightly overwhelmed. I had never really worked with the tools that we use, but I have adapted pretty well so far. This online class is totally different from what I have experienced for many reasons. For one, I have never been in a class that uses the blog formatting, generally the online classes I have taken stick to canvas or moodle. I really want to be able to work on my general web skills and abilities, there are many fine-tune details of the internet that I am not very good at, for example, I just learned that "ctrl-c" will copy the text, yes, it is embarrassing. The only browser extension that I actively use, other than the ones that have been recommended to us, is a tool called "Honey". Since I do a lot of online shopping, Honey is a free extension that searches for coupon codes that get automatically applied at check out, I highly recommend it. I also use Grammarly, but I almost never get any use from it. It is a good tool for those who have a hard time with spelling and grammar.

  1. I was also quite overwhelmed when I went through the first week's orientation for this class. I have never written a blog before so this was a completely foreign concept to me. However, after completing some assignments, I think the concept is growing on me; it's certainly a fun change of pace from my normal engineering coursework. I'm also looking forward to improving my web skills and abilities! By the way, I also use the free browser extension, Honey, and I can't believe how easy it was to install with just two clicks, and it automatically searches the web for available coupon codes to save me money!

Week 5 Story: The Modern Buddha

Buddha Figure:  Source          Of course, everyone knows the story of THE Buddha. But what about those doing good for others without recognition. Those people who do right in the world without anyone ever knowing? Well, that is what my brother aimed to do when we were young. We are old and tired now, but when we were young, my brother and I would travel around to the poorest areas in the villages at night. We would drop off bread, clean water, and other necessary material goods. We wanted to be anonymous. Of course, we went our separate paths and I got married and had children, but my brother devoted his life to the public without ever once being publicly known, he never wanted any fame or fortune, he did not want the attention. In fact, he wanted quite the opposite. My brother is dead and gone now, so that is why I have finally decided to tell his story.       My brother went to jail at age 17 and was away for 6 years. I do not want t...
