Cultural Depictions of Dogs: Source
This is the topic that I am primarily interested in. I do not know why, but the cultural depictions of dogs is the topic idea that stood out to me the most. As a dog lover, I am automatically interested in anything to do with dogs, so I would love to dedicate a project to their cultural depictions throughout history. In terms of prior knowledge, the only prior knowledge that I have is how dogs have served humans throughout history, I have written a report on how dogs aided in the progression of the human race, but I am by no means an expert on the topic. I would like to learn about how dogs have been used in folklore and in art in order to convey a different message or story. I think that this would be a really good topic just because it is something that I am truly interested in, and I am eager to learn more about. In my experience, the best research is done on a topic that you are truly interested in.
The Women of Camelot: Source
My second point of interest is the Women of Camelot. I find this topic intriguing because women are seldom written into history, so I would be primarily interested in finding the female perspective of the women of Camelot. I think it is something that I have little to no background information in and would be the topic that I would have to do the most research for. I am interested in the stories of both the queens and the common women, I would like to write stories about heroic women who made a difference with their actions. I am also specifically interested in King Arthur's wife, Guinivere.
Fairy Tales: Source
For Fairy Tales, I am specifically interested in Dutch Fairy Tales. Of course, everyone has a little bit of prior knowledge about Fairy Tales. I grew up reading Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, etc. In fact, many Fairy Tales have their roots in Dutch culture. A lot of the stories stem from the Netherlands and William Elliot Griffis helped spread the most popular Fairy Tales today. I would like to focus on Dutch Fairy Tales such as The Woman with Three Hundred and Sixty-Six Children or The Boy Who Wanted More Cheese, which are both popular pieces that encompass a lot of what Dutch folklore values. This topic idea would not be my first pick to spotlight, but it is certainly something that I have an appreciation for.
Aphrodite: Source
Like many people, I went through a mythology phase in High School. I became really interested in all of the Greek Gods and Goddesses, and I still am to this day. Writing about the Goddesses, specifically, Aphrodite would probably be my second topic choice pick. Aphrodite was said to be the Olympian goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation. I have a lot of interest in her specifically due to her power as a Goddess, as well as her all-encompassing title. I would like to learn about the different ways she has been depicted in literature, as well as how her specific roles as a goddess has shaped the folklore.
